Informix's information asset management spin-off, Ascential Software, intends to issue users with a roadmap explaining how to migrate from its Isell ecommerce bundle over the next few weeks.
The product, which was launched to great fanfare a couple of years ago and was subjected to much hype, will officially move into maintenance mode at the same time, but Ascential has already stopped selling licences for it.
The offering comprises a business-to-consumer application server, which the firm OEMs from ATG, and its own home-grown merchandising applications.
Ascential is, however, still providing support for its 100 iSell customers worldwide, only nine of which are located in northern Europe, but the aim is to move them over to a full ATG offering as quickly as possible.
Jay Huff, Ascential's northern European marketing and business development director, said: "We're looking to migrate clients to vanilla ATG and we're in the final stages of discussions about how best to do that. But we'll issue a roadmap with details of our strategic alliance and other specifics over the next few weeks."
"We're getting out of front-end transaction ecommerce engines because we don't see it as a core business and iSell didn't fit our business model. There are a lot of other major players in this market, such as Siebel, Bea and Broadvision, and to succeed here you need deep pockets and a strong focus," he added.
Ascential was created in September last year when Informix decided to separate its traditional database business from its applications operations. It received its new name in January.
The organisation will be formally launched to UK customers today at an event held at the London Eye and hopes to go public by the end of the year. It generated revenues of $122m last year and is predicting growth rates of between 65 and 70 per cent this year, with new licence sales expected to increase by 85 per cent.
