Chip equipment maker Applied Materials has acquired Consilium in a $42 million stock swap.
Loss-making Consilium has been struggling to maintain revenues with its Work Stream system for electronics manufacturers. Subject to approval, the acquisition will be accounted as a pooling-of-interests, expected to be finalised by early 1999.
