Apple will fill in the details of its restructuring, including numbers of layoffs, next Friday (14 March).
In a letter to employees, chairman Gil Amelio said: "We are planning to give more detail on what we'll do, what we won't do, the number of layoffs and the charge we will take to second quarter earnings."
The company is expected to axe between 2,000 and 5,000 jobs from its 11,000-strong payroll and the charge is likely to be in the $300-350 million range.
