Hewlett-Packard and Oracle have stepped up their already close joint development work to port Oracle?s Universal Server database to HP?s 64-bit hardware platform, currently under development. The new HP machines, not due for another two years, will be based on the Intel Architecture 64-bit (IA-64) processor family, which is being developed jointly by HP and Intel, and will run a 64-bit version of HP/UX.
