America Online, the largest provider of consumer online services, again signalled its commitment to content provision with the announcement of additional features on its International Channel.
Launched in June of this year, the International Channel provides AOL members with a range of services - from reports on worldwide events such as the Russian elections, to cultural information, to a dating service which links lonely hearts across the globe.
New areas announced recently include 'Name That Flag', which challenges members to test their knowledge and recognition of countries? colours from around the world; 'Royalty', a site that offers AOL?s distinct perspective on Britain?s infamous royal family; 'Global Citizen', a site that provides a wealth of information for the international business traveller, and which is sponsored by American Express; and 'NTN International Trivia', where members can show off their knowledge about worldly facts and figures.
A further addition planned for this winter includes 'The Currency Site', which will be launched by Currency Data and Intelligence of New York and will offer a central source for currency information on 184 countries.
This autumn, the International Channel is also set to debut its International Marketplace, where AOL members will be able to purchase goods. Initial store partners include Globalink, a company specialising in language translation software, and Harwin New Media, which features multimedia CD-Rom titles from around the world.
