Tandem has opened its first European telecomms facility in Sophia Antipolis, France which will be used to 'Europeanise' products for the sector and for customers to integrate and test new systems.
Among the first product to be revised to suit the European market is a software which enables mobile phone operators to track the precise location of users. Tandem will distribute the software from US-based Signal Soft to mobile operators in Europe.
The software will allow operators to offer greater public safety, improved billing, smart messaging and a variety of tracking services, such as information of nearby amenities.
Among the features include the ability for operators to determine special tariffs for calls within specific boundaries such as the home, office, educational campus, or shopping centres.
Telecomms is one of Tandem?s key vertical markets, mainly for products based on its fault tolerant systems. In the UK it provides Cellnet with intelligent networking services, and helps Germany?s Deutsche Telekom to respond to customer inquiries within two seconds with its 12Tbytes decision support database.
