Netscape has announced new software for presenting and paying bills online, in a bid to expand its Internet business capabilities.
The company said Billerxpert, released today, will enhance the billing process by improving its business users' interaction with their customers and saving time.
It will also improve supplier-customer relationships by offering self service features such as on-click payment, in-depth statement analysis, customised views of billing and personalised content, the company claimed.
While more companies trade online, few actually automate the whole billing process, preferring to send out paper bills instead. Netscape believes this will change, especially as the Web format enables companies to promote additional value added services and so create new revenue streams.
?For many companies, their only consistent interaction with their customers is through the monthly bill. By offering Internet billing services, companies can strengthen their relationships with their customers and provide better service while increasing revenue,? said Ben Horowitz, vice president of customer relationship applications at Netscape.P> Billerxpert can be customised for various market segments including telecomms, utilities and financial services. It is build on Netscape's Application Server and Directory Server software.
Companies can use the new product in combination with content and services from Netscape's Custom Netcenter site, to create their own Web sites, or ?vertical portals? that contain customer account information.
Netscape says that it has already enlisted a number of companies to test the software including British Columbia Telephone, Hong Kong Telecom and Saskatchewan Telephone. It has also teamed up with Cybercash, Intuit, Bluegill Technologies and Intellidata, among others, to provide customers with a complete bill issuing and payment solution.
