The world leaders in online bookstores, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, have a new rival, as US chain Borders Books and Music announces its own virtual store.
The company says that the idea behind Borders Online is to offer visitors an experience similar to that of visiting one of its real world stores. It will have areas on the site to consult with staff and chat with other customers as well as guest authors and musicians.
Borders is a leading book retailer in the US and has around 200 book and music ?superstores?. It first announced plans to go online last November when the company struck deals with IBM and Infoseeek.It is in the process of setting up terrestrial branches in London too.
