Chant - the first Chief Executive of the Contributions Agency - has spent most of her career in the civil service. She became as chief executive of the CSA in 1994, where she achieved a tenfold increase in the total of child maintenance paid.
The Revenue is currently carrying out a review of its internal structure but initially Chant will take on the management responsibilities previously held by Bush, for the department's local and regional operations including the two accounts offices and the National Insurance Contributions Office, formerly theContributions Agency.
She was appointed after an open public competition, in which the Revenue were helped by search consultants.
