Letsbuyit.com is to extend its Internet buyers club service to wireless application protocol (Wap) mobile phones and interactive television.
The Swedish company offers European consumers discount buying power by banding them together and purchasing in bulk. Consumers wanting to buy a product file their request to the website, together with the length of time they are willing to wait. When enough people have requested the same item, Letsbuyit goes to the manufacturer or agent and negotiates a discount.
Letsbuyit founder John Palmer told VNUnet that the next step is putting the service on Wap phones as well as interactive TV. "The Wap mobile phone market is set to explode in Europe in the coming months," he said.
Palmer confirmed that Letsbuyit has signed an agreement with Red Message to launch the website across a number of mobile phone services in Europe, but he declined to give details. "We're working on interactive TV for when that really becomes mass market," he added.
Letsbuyit is also in discussion with a number of financial institutions to launch credit facilities for so-called big-ticket items. "We'll be selling cars, so credit is something we have to offer," said Palmer, who did not rule out the company issuing its own credit card to club members. "We are exploring all avenues," he said.
Letsbuyit will also launch a loyalty scheme for its members on similar lines to those offered by airlines and supermarket chains in the coming months.
The company currently offers discounts on its website on everything from consumer electronics and travel to home and garden.
