Concert, the global alliance between BT and AT&T, will begin marketing and building an international version of CommerceOne's business-to-business ecommerce trading portal.
The Concert Marketsite will be targeted at the company's 270-strong international customer base and a link will be provided to BT Marketsite, the UK telco's hosted version of CommerceOne's portal. Concert's global customers include American Express, Mobil and Hewlett Packard.
The company will also market the trading platform through its global network of 55 distributors, said David Dorman, Concert's chief executive.
"Concert will be the direct marketer of CommerceOne's Buysite [the client interface to the portal], host Marketsite and aggregate traffic," he said.
Marketsite will be the latest in a line of telco-hosted versions of CommerceOne's global trading portal. The portals are based on software from CommerceOne and are used to trade indirect goods such as office furniture and computers, and direct products, including raw materials for manufacturing.
The plan to create the portal is the latest move in Concert's bid to become an IP-over-frame relay services powerhouse, said Dorman.
"IP services is the fastest growing segment and frame relay has become the backbone service of choice. People are moving from frame relay to IP and we want to be part of this by offering applications over IP," he added.
Concert recently sealed a deal to offer software from Staffware and eFusion's voice-over-IP services to its global customers.
The telco boasts an IP backbone that spans 21 cities in 17 countries, and is in the process of combining it with the IP backbone that AT&T acquired from IBM a year ago. Concert said the backbone will reach more than 60 cities worldwide when integration is complete in 18 months' time.
BT and AT&T have already invested a combined $3bn in the joint venture and will spend $1.5bn more this year to develop the IP network.
Concert claims that its frame relay network reaches every major city in the US and UK, and 170 other cities in 47 countries, while its global public network reaches 237 countries directly.
