BT Internet is giving away free mobile phones with its Net connection service, in a bid to woo consumers during the expected festive boom.
Any consumers who sign up for a one-year subscription with BT Internet by New Year?s Eve will get a mobile phone connected to Cellnet and #5 worth of calls a month free for 12 months. BT Internet annual subscription costs #129.25.
In a bid to retain its customer base, BT is also making the offer open to existing members who are renewing their yearly subscription. But again, the deadline for the offer is 31 December 1998.
"We want to offer a reward to our most loyal users to emphasise our commitment and thank them for their support,? explained John Swingewood, director of BT Internet and multimedia services.
Analysts believe the market for Internet connections this Christmas will be extremely buoyant as consumers take advantage of cut-price PCs that high street and supermarket chains are offering to get connected.
