The Artist Formerly Known As Prince plans to be the first pop star to launch a CD only available on the Internet.
The pint-sized pop phenomenon wants to release Crystal Ball, a CD containing tracks only available from bootleggers until now, in a limited edition of 100,000. The Artist said he has been cheated by illicit copies of his music and wants to sell a genuine version of the tracks to real fans.
His Web site, http://love4oneanother.com, follows the Artist?s style. It uses numbers in place of letters and borrows lines and from his singles to market CDs and offer news. It said: "Dig if U will the picture? the first release by a major artist solely on the Internet. All we need 2 do is manifest it."
Crystal Ball will be a four-CD set. "Call 4 pricing," the site adds.
