Sybase's shares rose 25 per cent on Monday following takeover speculation in the wake of Computer Associates' purchase of Platinum Technology.
Shares in the database supplier closed up $1.594 at $8.063, but dropped back $0.3125 to $7.75 on Tuesday.
A Sybase spokewoman refused to comment on the situation, saying the firm was now in its quiet period and expected to announce its financial results on 22 April.
