The Millennium Network is an ambitious plan to provide an IT infrastructure to support the broadcasting of the Olympic Games from Sydney in two years' time. The project, currently being delivered by Australian global telecoms company Telstra, involves a 1.5 million kilometre optical fibre backbone - sufficient cable to circle the globe 37 times. All words and images dispatched around the world from the Games will be carried by the Millennium Network and this will be the first time that a single company has provided the full range of services for the Olympics.
