Compaq, as predicted by VNU Newswire earlier this week, has followed Dell?s example and today launched an Internet based division, responsible for selling products, solutions and services to customers via the Web.
IDC analyst Andy Brown said he was expecting the move(see todays news analysis section), as Compaq faces increasing pressure from rival Dell across all markets. ?They have seen the success Dell has had with its Premier Pages model and it worries them.?
The new Compaq.com division will be aimed at both consumers and large corporations and is in addition to Compaq direct, a web based program the company launched last year, aimed at small and medium businesses.
Kenny Kurtzman, formerly vice president and general manager of Compaq?s small and medium business division was named as vice president and general manager of the new venture.
