Amazon.com, determined to become the ultimate online superstore, will today start selling home DIY products and computer games on its website.
Despite still losing money, Amazon.com is going ahead with its ambitious expansion plans. It is hoping its new product lines will pull in even more online Christmas shoppers.
In the past 17 months, Amazon, com has grown from an online bookstore into an Internet shopping hub, offering music, videos, auctions, toys, electronics and greeting cards. It also allows everyone, from large companies to creative entrepreneurs, to sell merchandise through its online shops. In the UK, Amazon is focusing its attention on auctions, music and books.
"We have no other product area to announce at the moment," commented a spokesperson.
According to Media Metrix, Amazon.com was the most visited online shopping site on the internet. But Amazon.com has yet to be in the black in its four years of business.
Amazon recently purchased Tool Crib in the US to kick off its home improvement site, which will sell everything from nails to drills.
