Dell needed a big name to give it added credibility in the server market, so poaching a senior executive from Compaq, king of the Intel server market, seems a good move. Michael Lambert, vice president of enterprise marketing at Compaq, will join Dell as head of the server division on Monday. His place will be filled by Robert Fernander, formerly vice president of worldwide channel sales and marketing at Digital Equipment. Dell was determined to get a big gun from Compaq and had reportedly contacted several other current or former vice presidents, including Gary Stimac. Lambert will report to president Michael Dell.
