BT may be enticing Brits to run up bills chatting to Uncle Sam in America, but MCI is offering Americans a chance to make friends in little ol? England for 12 cents a minute. But who would they want to call?
Ex-PM and now US lecture show queen, Margaret Thatcher, is the woman American men would most like to ring up. For American women, former 007, Sean Connery, is the man to whom they would most like to whisper sweet nothings.
Thatcher was chosen by 54 per cent of the men surveyed. She was followed by supermodel Naomi Campbell, with 16 per cent, while the UK?s best known actresses, Emma Thompson and Elizabeth Hurley, were chosen by 12 and eight per cent, respectively.
Among the women surveyed, Connery grabbed 48 per cent of responses. Affairs of the state came in second, with 17 per cent of female respondents giving the nod to John Major - or was it to get recipes for cooking peas from Norma? British fop Hugh Grant came in neck and neck with commentator Robin Leach (who? - must be big in America), at 12 and 11 per cent respectively, with award-winning recording artist Seal taking four per cent.
