A source here has revealed the origin of the word Merced, the Risc chip that Intel is set to introduce as the successor to the Pentium family. The river Merced flows out of the Yosemite valley but was originally called El Rio Nuestra Senora de la Merced. He said: "Perhaps this signals that Intel will finally display mercy, albeit making everyone pay through the nose for it".
