In brief: Alcatel breaks joint venture with Sprint
Alcatel has released Sprint from a datacomms joint venture by purchasing its stake in Alcatel Data Networks.
The venture was formed in 1993 to develop packet and cell-based datacomms products for carriers and organisations. It plays a pivotol role in Alcatel's bid to dominate the merged voice and data networks market.
Alcatel Data Networks will now be integrated into Alcatel's newly formed enterprise and data networks division, which will develop PABX and intelligent call centre products.
