Cognos has joined Microsoft's Alliance for Data Warehousing to ensure its decision support tools work with the software giant's forthcoming online analytical processing (Olap) engine. The product, codenamed Plato, is based on the technology Microsoft acquired when it purchased Israeli start-up Panorama Software last year. It will be integrated into the next release of SQL Server and is scheduled to go into beta this summer.
