BT is reported to be be discussing a strategic alliance with Spain?s incumbent telecomms operator, Telefonica, that would raise its profile in the Latin American market.
According to the ?Financial Times?, it is seeking to buy a stake in Telefonica Internacional, the company's international unit, which has presence in Argentina, Chile and Peru.
A tie-up would mean Telefonica dropping out of the AT&T/Unisource partnership, in which it owns 25 per cent.
