Lucent claims to have broken through the speed barrier for enterprise networks with its Lazrspeed fibre optic cabling offering, which it attests is up to 10 times faster than today's 1Gbps backbones.
Jan Mul, director of Lucent's Systimax line of structured cabling products, said: "The ability to support LED based 10Mb applications through laser based 10Gb applications on the same fibre is unprecedented. As speeds to the work location increase and Internet traffic continues to grow, this solution provides a scalable backbone that allows for a smooth migration to 10Gbps speeds on one fibre."
The Lazrspeed channel combines Lazrspeed multimode fibre with the telecoms equipment supplier’s LC connector to support 10Gbps data transmissions at distances of up to 300 metres.
