Nokia has claimed to have beaten rivals to complete the first WCDMA calls, through the public switched telephone network (PSTN). WCDMA is the next generation mobile technology that encompasses multimedia applications.
The calls were made from Nokia's test network in Finland, using a third generation WCDMA terminal, WCDMA base station subsystem and Nokia GSM mobile switching centres connected to the PSTN.
