Equant launched last week its Customer Self-service Application (CSA) product, which provides Web-based access to traditional green-screen applications, with fine control over user access and layout.
The package includes both software and consultancy, said Equant.
The company also offered hosting and management services, in connection with its experience building front-end applications for legacy systems.
Ian Lee-Emery, marketing head for Equant's application services division, said: "CSAs will make data access easy wherever the data is stored in the organisation. In practice, it means that traditional green screens of dense information are not only rendered more legible, but that the information is accessible to anyone authorised to receive it and who has Web access (including) customers, suppliers and other business partners."
The company is promoting the product for Web-enabled bank account handling, bill payment and monitoring, delivery tracking and public databases.
It consists of a Web-enabling application running on an integration server, which can be housed anywhere on the IP network. The server passes requests to the mainframe as if it were an ordinary user, then translates the results to a Web page.
Lee-Emery said the application server is targeted at NT but also runs on some brands of Unix. Connectivity is biased towards IBM backends such as 7230, VT100 and AS/400, although databases such as Oracle are also supported.
A base implementation will cost about £60,000, which would include implementation, integration and Web design services. But it also could extend to Web hosting on Equant's extensive data network, Lee-Emery said. A typical project would take about 50 to 60 days to install.
