Resellers will be able to become 3Com Preferred Service Partners under the networking company's new scheme to differentiate top tier Vars.
The top tier accreditation applies to resellers who commit service staff to 3Com business. It has been introduced around the world and offers Vars priority access to 3Com support, marketing and training. In return, they must buy 3Com back-up services, maintain a call logging and helpdesk system, demonstrate multivendor integration skills and place two certified engineers at each reseller location.
3Com vice president Chu Chang said business customers will be able to rely on preferred service partners. The vendor said IDC figures show service is becoming more important to the European reseller channel as a source of margin. Preferred service partner accreditation replaces the service partner level of 3Com?s service select programme.
In an unrelated move, 3Com announced it is one of three vendors hosting a reseller seminar in four US cities with distributor Ingram Micro, on how to sell business solutions based on the Internet. Sun Microsystems, Netscape and 3Com will offer dealers their ideas on the uses of Internet software, Java, Intranets, Extranets and networking hardware, all of which will be sold by Ingram?s Open Systems division.
