Symantec has apologised and backed down from its legal battle with anti-virus rival McAfee in Japan, but the companies? $1 billion US patent dispute will go ahead.
Symantec admitted it had lied in its statements of 21 July and 25 July, which claimed it had won the copyright infringement suit against McAfee. McAfee used the admission to pour scorn on Symantec, while Symantec focused on the pending lawsuits (see Newswire, 20 & 25 August).
McAfee withdrew its Japanese defamation action after Symantec?s climbdown but will press ahead with its $1 billion US defamation suit. Symantec said it wants to focus on "McAfee?s copying of Symantec?s code into their own products".
