Dell is to introduce a midrange Pentium Pro server and will bundle Windows NT free with the product until the end of this year.
The Poweredge 4100 server has a price starting at $6,1999 and comes in both single and dual processor configurations using either 180MHz or 200MHz chips. The server is a response to Compaq?s recent announcement of the Proliant 2500.
Features of the server include redundant cooling and 'hot plug' disk drives but there are also options for redundant power supplies and Raid drives. The company claimed that the machine had the best price/performance of any machine of its type.
Dell is supplying its own system management software integrated with Intel Server Manager which supports HP Openview, IBM Netview and Tivoli TME. No UK pricing or availability information is yet available.
