BT has lost its UK president and managing director to US carrier Qwest Communications.
Afshin Mohebbi, after just over 18 months with BT, will join Qwest on 1 June where he will serve as president and chief operating officer.
Mohebbi, at just 36 years old, will manage all Qwest's line operations, including all business units, network engineering and operations, IT and staff support.
BT said it expects to make an announcement about a replacement "fairly shortly." A spokesman added that there are a number of strong internal candidates for the position.
Mohebbi has been closely involved in the development of IP services and infrastructure at BT. Qwest operates a large circuit switched network in the US and operates in Europe through its joint venture with Dutch telco KPN.
