Microsoft has decided on the name Office 2000 for the next version of its productivity suite, and will ship Beta 1 to 20,000 testers in July.
The final product is expected to ship in late 1998 or early 1999. At PC Expo last week, Microsoft demonstrated the new Web connectivity features of the product and revealed new features, such as a "collect and copy" utility that acts as a clipboard for multiple fragments of text, and enhancements to the Office Assistant, which will no longer be confined to a window at the bottom of the screen, but roam freely across the desktop.
