Telephony newcomer Telinco has launched a home communications package that offers free unlimited Internet access and discounted national calls.
Targeted at the sophisticated consumer the package, dubbed Home Connect, also includes a personal telephone number, voicemail, a freephone number and low cost national calls for a connection charge of #20 a month.
However, on top of these charges, users will also be billed by BT for local calls and line rental.
With the Internet access users also get five email addresses, so the family can have separate accounts and five megabytes of free Web space. Local calls have to be paid for when online.
The personal number can be transferred to any telephone, enabling you to be contacted wherever you are, including on your mobile phone. If you are not available the message answering service takes messages and contacts you to tell you they are waiting.
Telinco believes the freephone number will be useful for parents whose children want to contact them when they are out in the evening or at university, for example. These calls will be billed at 10 pence per minute directly to the Telinco account holder.
Simon Preston, director of Telinco, understands that not everyone will want these services but is confident that there are enough ?high-level? users and teleworkers who will take advantage of it.
?There are a large group who want these services neatly in one package and there are others who will not realise how useful these services are until they have them,? he said.
Telinco claims that national calls will be 25 per cent to 36 per cent cheaper than BT. If you spend around #35 per quarter on your telephone calls, Telinco claims you will make a saving of around #334 in the first year using its service. This figure includes savings on paying a monthly Internet access subscription and for voice mail facilities.
