Comic Relief has extended its online fund raising efforts with a redesigned rednoseday.com website to help poor and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa.
The charity's website technology and content is supported by firms including Cisco, Empirix, Energis, Macromedia, Oracle, SkyNet Systems, Sun Microsystems and Zeus Technology, which have supplied hardware, software and development time for the campaign.
Launching in February 2005, rednoseday.com aims to bring the charity's Big Hair & Beyond theme to life. The site allows Comic Relief to accept donations directly over the internet for the first time. It is anticipating over 150 million hits during the campaign.
As well as donating, supporters will be able to order the fundraising kit, register events and buy Red Nose Day 2005 merchandise.
The redesigned site has been engineered with a scalable architecture to handle flash crowd traffic responding to the BBC's appeal programme. It will be able process hundreds of thousands of transactions during the night of 11 March.www.rednoseday.com
