Allaire last week announced its new e-commerce and content management software, Spectra.
Formerly code-named Tempest, the product is an add-on to Allaire's ColdFusion application server.
Spectra, which is now in beta, will ship in early October priced at $7,495 (£4,774) per server. UK pricing and availability has not yet been announced.
Spectra's capabilities include designing the content, logic, presentation and delivery of Web sites; workflow and process automation; and the ability to track, measure and report on activities in a Web business.
Allaire's aim with Spectra and ColdFusion is to give individuals other than dedicated application developers a chance to control content. For example, business line managers have access to a set of Web tools in Spectra for managing workflows, security roles and content.
Spectra also includes e-commerce software, such as credit card authorisation and personalisation software, to pitch information to users based on their specified interests.
With Spectra, Allaire will compete with heavyweights such as Microsoft and IBM, which is rebuilding its Net.Commerce software to lie on top of its WebSphere application server (see box).
IBM upgrades e-commerce
- IBM has announced version 3.2 of its Net.Commerce software, which it says increases the previous version's throughput by 30%.
The software's caching and other features have been improved to increase the amount of information that can be imported and to boost its capacity to deal with sudden increases in demand.
Net.Commerce comes in two versions: Start for mid-sized companies and Pro for larger firms. Both products will be available in August and run on AIX, AS/400, NT and Solaris. UK pricing is not yet available.
Future versions of Net.Commerce will be built with Enterprise Java Beans to bring Net.Commerce in line with other IBM products, the company said.
IBM also last week added three products to its SecureWay range: SecureWay Host On-Demand Version 4, Screen Customiser Version 1 and Host Publisher Version 2.
