IBM has added new functions to its 2220 Nways Broadband switch designed to increase availability and ease network management. The 2220 can support any mix of services, circuits, fast-packet and cell-based switching. For time-sensitive traffic, it offers a guaranteed level of service and maximises bandwidth utilisation to move larger, less time-sensitive data and image traffic. NBBS over ATM, frame relay over ISDN, trunk back-up over Euro-ISDN, non-disruptive path switching and alarm forwarding are all new features on this switch.
