Smartcards, palm PCs, telephones and other appliances will be able to use Java now that Sun Microsystems has released the details of Personal Java for simple devices.
The 25 companies that have licensed Personal Java, a subset of Sun?s Java Virtual Machine, should begin launching products from June, Sun said.
Based on Sun Solaris, the upgrade allows device manufacturers to process more information at the server level and keep appliance clients 'thinner'. Sun has also made it easier for developers to make more simple user interfaces with an Abstract Windowing Toolkit.
