Bank Of England governor Eddie George was hit by accusations of destroying the UK economy when he ventured on to the Internet for an online chat.
George was supposed to be answering questions on the single European currency, in an online chat on the Department of Trade and Industry's website, but had to answer a range of questions - from what he thought of his 'Steady Eddie' nickname, to the state of the UK economy.
One irate surfer demanded to know when George would work out that his policies had destroyed the UK economy, a charge George denied, telling his critic he needed to keep things in proportion.
