The Dental School at the University of Bristol has completed a two-year trial using video conferencing to reduce the waiting time for patients needing specialist dental advice. Dentists involved in the trial were equipped with PictureTel video and data conferencing systems, which allow calls to be made over ISDN, transmitting clear, full-colour images. During the video call, the dentist can view and discuss the patient's X-rays or moulds with the specialist who will make the diagnosis.
