SAP today became the latest organisation in a long line of vendors to enter the application hosting market, with the launch of a company.
The company, which has yet to be named, will begin operating internationally on 1 April with 50 employees initially. At Cebit in Hanover today, SAP said the company will be particularly aimed at the small and medium sized business markets. In addition to its own Application Service Provider (ASP) and hosting offerings, it will provide training and support for ASP partners and certify their products.
The hosting services from SAP will include the configuration and operation of its mySAP.com internet business product and its mySAP.com marketplace service - also launched today.
Henning Kagermann, co-chairman and chief executive of SAP, commented: "With mySAP.com, SAP is empowering companies with a fast and cost effective way to join the ebusiness revolution. With a dedicated and sharply focused company, SAP will gain valuable hands-on experience that will enable us to build more powerful hosting systems for our customers."
