SugarCRM has added mobile and social capabilities to its Sugar 6 software in a bid to capitalise on the growing use of social media and smartphones in the enterprise.
Highlights of the Sugar 6 update include social customer relationship management (CRM) and media management features, as well as enhanced mobile, email and language support.
The SugarCRM Social Cloud enables customers to connect the software with social networks including LinkedIn and Twitter.
"The idea is to let users see the latest useful information regarding their clients within one interface," said Tom Schuster, vice president of EMEA at SugarCRM.
"The additions will cut down the time spent searching for information, and help to enrich conversations between users and their clients by providing personal elements on top of factual information."
A Twitter Connector tool is designed to put this into practice by showing a customer's contact information and latest tweets.
Sugar Cloud Connectors and social feeds, meanwhile, enable the sharing of any type of external data, including video and social networking information, or any records from the CRM system.
SugarCRM has also added email management and communications capabilities allowing Sugar 6 to integrate with Microsoft Outlook 2010.
Support for all IMAP email protocol offerings such as Gmail from within the Sugar email module has also been strengthened.
The Google Chrome browser is now fully supported, offering customers the choice of how they access Sugar 6, and 13 language packs are now offered in addition to the 80 already supported. The latest language packs also offer localised currency capabilities.
SugarCRM is keen on promoting a "run anywhere" concept, where software can run on any server, any cloud and any appliance, Schuster claimed.
An updated version of the Sugar Mobile iPhone app has been released to help boost productivity by providing sales staff with access to Sugar 6 on the move, and offering strong customisation capabilities.
Smartphones are becoming the devices of choice for enterprises users, but the iPad has become an increasingly important tool and will become more useful to business users when it gets the iOS 4.2 update, according to Schuster.
Sugar Mobile for iPhone is available from the Apple App Store for all Sugar Professional and Enterprise Edition customers. Free trials of Sugar Mobile for iPhone can be accessed directly from the iPhone application or via SugarCRM.
