Lloyds TSB can now recognise callers to its Phonebank system even when they have strong regional accents, according to speech recognition developer Nuance Communications.
Lloyds TSB is the first customer Nuance has signed since it added regional UK accent recognition to its Conversational Transactions technology, which recognises spoken words.
Nuance claims the product can handle heavy accents from all regions of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland after collecting 130,000 voice samples. It did not say how much the bank has paid for the software.
