Fore Systems has further extended its range of ATM adapters with PCI bus products for DEC Alpha and IBM RS/6000 Risc platforms.
The Forerunner PCA-200EUX adapters can also be obtained with single-mode fibre interfaces - also announced for Fore?s other PCI bus ATM products, the PCA-200EPC range, and for its VMA-200E VME bus adapters.
The aim of the additions is to help Fore to cover the widest range of platforms and connection options in the ATM market, said director of product marketing, Joe Skorupa. With the addition of Alpha and RS/6000, all commonly installed workstations are now provided for.
The DEC and IBM adapters run with Unix operating systems and include 155mbps support and a choice of interfaces - single-mode fibre, multi-mode fibre or unshielded twisted pair 5 copper. The single-mode fibre interface supports longer distances between desktops than multi-mode.
The devices also include Forethought 4.0, the supplier?s internetworking software, which offers migration paths to ATM. It supports current ATM standards and supports features such as virtual Lans, IP multicasting, automatic network configuration, intelligent routing and redundant Lan emulation services.
Both products are available now with prices starting at $995 in the US, and the single-mode fibre adapters priced from $2,495.
