Bay Networks' acquisition of Rapid City Communications and Isotro Network Management pushed it into a fourth quarter loss of $118 million.
The results included a charge of $148.5 million for the two takeovers, without which Bay would have been profitable, but revenues increased only marginally - up 1.4 per cent to $543 million.
For fiscal year 1997, net losses totalled $285 million or $1.46 per share.
