Less than a week after the acquisition of Digital Equipment was finalised, Compaq rolled out a set of Internet based services that build on Digital?s expertise.
Compaq announced the services, aimed at small and medium businesses (SMBs), at PC Expo in New York yesterday.
Compaq Online Services include 'online.delivery', promising instant and secure delivery of business files over the Internet; 'online.briefcase' (secure remote access to files); 'online.backup' for remote backup over the Internet; and 'online.commerce' (outsourcing the running of ecommerce servers).
The offerings will be sold through a new Web site, as well as by Compaq SMB Solution Providers and on the Company?s Clubweb, an online store that groups the offerings of multiple Compaq partners.
The services will be offered in north America initially, with worldwide availability by the end of the year.
Compaq also introduced Welcome Center, a new call centre in Houston, Texas that will provide information about Compaq products and partners but will also accept orders.
