USA Today says Sun Microsystems is talking with Apple about buying its Newton division, looking at the systems as possible network computers for Java. Sun was spurned last year when it offered to buy Apple, but the companies are at polar ends of the greasy pole, and Apple was offered only $20m for the Newton division earlier this year. The bid fell apart, but the shock value was the difference between $20m and the $200m asking price of only a few years ago.
