Sun has licensed PersonalJava and EmbeddedJava to a raft of real-time operating system vendors to enable their products to run Java applications. PersonalJava is aimed at devices with graphical user interfaces, while EmbeddedJava is for use with character-based front-ends or no displays at all. The licensees include Acorn, Chorus, Lucent and WindRiver Systems. Sun also plans to post the final PersonalJava specification on its Web site next week at http://java.sun.com/products/personaljava. Users will be able to download a style guide for building PersonalJava applications from the same address.
