Joe Amodio, former European head of TDK, has jumped ship to create another PC Card company in Europe, joining the Bordeaux based firm which manufactures the Minitel terminal.
He will create a subsidiary of Comm One in Europe, based in Reading, which will introduce a spate of products over the next year.
Amodio said: ?Currently we sell 85 per cent to OEMs and 15 per cent is branded. My mandate is to switch it to a 60/40 model.?
His parting from TDK was amicable, he said. ?They?ve replaced me with a team of country managers. We have a PC product called Trio which supports GSM, PSTN and ISDN. It is distributed by PPCP but we?ll expand that model.?
But Comm One will not stop at PC cards, said Amodio. ?We have a set top box NC based on P133 technology and although we currently manufacture in Bordeaux, we are setting up manufacturing in the Far East,? he said.
He said Comm One will set up additional distributorships in Europe and hire many staff. It already has a personal digital assistant (PDA) but will introduce a CE device later this year, he said.
A representative for TDK said: ?Carl Baker has been appointed as the country manager in the UK but I?ll have to get back to you on the nine other country managers.?
