AOL's customers spent a hefty $1.2 billion (#0.7 billion) on online purchases over the Christmas period, from 26 November to 27 December last year.
The figure was higher than analysts expected, illustrating the burgeoning importance of Internet shopping. AOL said 17 December was its busiest single day, and that the most popular purchases over the period were children's goods, such as toys, and clothes.
