Ameritech is to acquire 40 per cent of Denmark?s Tele Danmark for $3.2 billion, making it the largest US investor in European telecomms.
The Tele Danmark stake will be Ameritech?s third investment in a fixed wire European telco. It already has 24.4 per cent of Belgacom of Belgium and 33.5 per cent of Hungary?s Matav. Ameritech also owns 19.7 per cent of Netcom which provides GSM cellular services in Norway.
The Danish telco itself has investments in wireless services in Hungary, Poland, Ukraine and Lithuania, plus shares in new entrants in Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
