Gordon Eubanks, Symantec's president and chief executive who announced plans to step down in January, said he was leaving to head up Oblix, a Silicon Valley ecommerce start up.
Eubanks added he would remain in place until a replacement is found, however. He has served in his present role at Symantec since 1984.
Oblix sells its socalled Oblix Corporate Services Solution, which tracks and manages corporate resources and assets such as staff and systems.
